A colourful hand-drawn illustration of Exeter shown as a lively community map. Winding coloured routes connect parks, rivers, bridges and neighbourhoods, with Exeter Cathedral and local buildings sketched in an artistic ink-and-watercolour style. Dozens of small figures of different ages and ethnicities walk, cycle, wheel, scoot and spend time outdoors together. The scene includes wheelchair users, older people, families with children, cyclists and people using mobility scooters, all moving through an accessible and welcoming city landscape. Bright map lines and location pins weave across the image, giving it the feel of a creative editorial illustration or independent magazine artwork.

Update 2: We’ve been awarded Active Travel England innovation funding!

We’re thrilled to share that we’ve secured funding through the Department for Transport and Active Travel England’s Innovation Fund to develop a new pilot project in Exeter, Devon.

The project will focus on creating a demonstrator for trusted local walking, wheeling and cycling routes – helping people discover easier, safer and more enjoyable ways to move around their communities.

This will be a brilliant foundation for Good Ways moving forward.

The ambition is not only to support Exeter, but also to create an approach that other towns and cities across the country can learn from and adapt to their own local needs.

Across England, twelve organisations were selected to receive support through the fund, which backs innovative, community-led approaches to active travel.

Local Transport Minister Lilian Greenwood said:

“We’re backing bold, community-led ideas that get more people walking, wheeling and cycling.

These projects show how innovation and entrepreneurship can deliver healthier journeys.. and real benefits for communities across the country.”

And Active Travel Commissioner Chris Boardman said:

“It’s about making it easier for more people to choose active travel for everyday trips, whatever their age, ability or background.”

We’re excited to begin working with communities and partners across Exeter in the months ahead.

A big congratulations to the other innovators who have been awarded funding. We’re looking forward to collaborating and learning with you.

Are you in the Greater Exeter area? Would you like to help find, check and share walking, wheeling or cycle routes in the area? Please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
